On Tuesday, April 9th, 2013, the ASUMH College Stream Team, known as the Hellbenders, are hosting a public presentation in Dryer Hall.

The Stream Team provides educational outreach to the campus and throughout local communities to increase understanding and appreciation of Arkansas stream systems as well as promoting environmental advocacy and stewardship.

Landfill and groundwater issues recently in the news, have prompted the group to invite Dr. Tom Aley of Ozark Underground Laboratory to their school.

Dr. Tom Aley is an internationally known leader in hydrogeology and environmental science. He is President and Senior Hydrogeologist with the Ozark Underground Laboratory in Protem, Missouri (Taney County).

His presentation is titled, Cold, Clear, but Not Pure. Challenges for Restoring and Protecting Groundwater Quality in the Ozarks.

There will be a mixer with refreshments at 4:30 p.m. The presentation begins at 5:30 p.m. in McMullen Lecture Hall on the ASUMH campus.

Dr. Aley holds B. S. and M. S. degrees from the University of California at Berkeley and is nationally certified as a Professional Hydrogeologist. He is licensed as a Professional Geologist in Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky and Alabama and specializes in hydrogeologic interactions of surface and subsurface waters in karst areas such as those that typify most of the Ozarks.

Working with the Stream Team are Friends of the North Fork and White Rivers, Citizens for Clean Water and Start 2 Start Recycling.
